BRING WHAT
MAKES YOU, YOU.

Your patience. Your perspective. Your willingness to listen. There are many ways to help a good idea grow.

For students

Interested in technology, storytelling, or creativity? Tell us what draws you to the idea and what you’d like to learn.

This is a conversation about future opportunities, not enrollment in a scheduled visit.

Express interest

For senior communities

Help us understand what would be useful, appropriate, and enjoyable for the older adults you support.

We’re seeking guidance and supervised opportunities, with host requirements leading the way.

Offer guidance

A conversation comes first.

  1. 1

    Say hello

Choose an area of interest and email a short introduction. You don’t need a perfect plan.

  2. 2

    Explore what fits

Discuss the idea, the setting, and what is realistically possible at this stage.

  3. 3

    Confirm the essentials

Before any activity, establish host approval, supervision, permissions, and relevant school requirements.

Good questions.

Are there volunteer visits I can sign up for now?

Not yet. Cross the Bridge is in development, and confirmed visits or group placements are not currently listed. You can express interest or offer guidance by email.

Do I need special experience?

For the activities being explored, patience, curiosity, and respect are a good starting point. Any future opportunity may have its own orientation or participation requirements set by the host.

Can I earn MCPS Student Service Learning hours?

Hours are not guaranteed. Confirm Student Service Learning (SSL) eligibility and any required pre-approval with your school and the host organization before taking part.

What permissions would be needed?

Requirements depend on the opportunity and host organization. Appropriate supervision, facility rules, and parental permission where needed must be addressed before participation.

Can older adults or families contact you?

Yes. Questions and ideas are welcome. Please keep your first email general and avoid sharing private health information or details about another person without permission.

Are these medical or personal-care services?

No. The proposed activities are social, educational, and creative. Cross the Bridge is not offering clinical care or personal-care services.

Is Cross the Bridge accepting donations?

No donation or payment collection is offered on this site. At this stage, the most useful contributions are guidance, thoughtful ideas, and conversations about supervised opportunities.

A first hello can go a long way.
